Stress-Proofing

Step One: Stress Awareness Seminar

As an introduction to Stress-Proofing this session will examine what causes events in life to be stressful, and the effects that stress can have on an individual’s mind and body.

Self-awareness is an essential first step in developing coping skills

Step Two: Stress-Proofing

This is a practical programme that allows participants to learn and practice a variety of techniques they can draw on to relax, to relieve tension in the muscles, to reduce the negative chatter in the brain, and to change their thought patterns so that they can take control of their own stress responses in the future.

It can be delivered in one seminar, or in a programme of one hour sessions which establish the habit of incorporating the techniques into daily life.

Step Three: Coping Skills

This seminar takes stress-reduction techniques to the next level. Participant will be able to put their relaxation and stress-reduction skills into practice to gain control over the stress-producing demands in their lives and at work.

Benefits of the Programme:

By the end of the programme participants will be able to:-:

Distinguish between stress that is life-enhancing, i.e. creates excitement and is positively challenging, and stress that is debilitating, i.e. creates fear, anxiety, and ill health

Identify their personal stressors

Recognise their individual stress response to events and circumstances in their lives

Learn and practice techniques that will reduce the damaging effects of stress on their emotions, thoughts and bodily functions

Put a variety of coping skills into action

The cumulative effect of the programme will be to put participants in control so that they are able to make choices about how they respond to stressful events in the future.

Participants are asked to commit to regular practice of the relaxation and stress reduction techniques covered in the sessions. Intellectual understanding of the techniques is of little value without the first hand experience, and so over the course of the programme regular practice will help develop these new habits at an unconscious level. Support material and questionnaires as well as practical exercises will be included in the sessions.
